How do I lose weight, when I can't really exercise?!

Question:

How do I lose weight, when I can't really exercise?

I have a sprained ACL in my right leg and I can't bend it right now. I am in PT trying to get it better, but it is taking forever. Meanwhile I am still trying to lose the last 15 pounds from my pregnancy. Any ideas on what I can do.

I already eat healthy- loads of protein and I lift 3 pound arm weights. Walking fast is out of the question given my knee.

Is it even possible to lose my fat just through diet? I hate this.
Thanks for your input.

First of all i am SOOO sorry about your ACL, that really stinks. I had a friend who tore her ACL and was in pain for a year.
If you want to lose weight then you are goign in the right direction. The arm weights is good, and so is tring to keep active. there are various diet tips that are good to lose weight without really tring or starving yourself.

First of all, comming from someone who has had a lot of athletic related injuries you have to remember to take it easy. Not being able to work out stinks but what stinks more is if you push yourself so it lasts longer. When you have an injury don't do anything that wil hurt it, you want the sprain to heal quickly. This involves eating the right amount of food. Note looseing weight with no excersize is a slow process. But you shouldn't expect to lose 15 lbs too quickly with a sprain ACL. Your first priority should be to heal. I had horrible shin splints and tried to work out on them. They were only sopposed to last 3 weeks but i pushed it and it lasted for 8 weeks ad may have turned into stress fractures. So don't push it or you could have serious damage.

I do have a few steps for eatign healthy so you will heal AND lose weight (it wil help you lsoe those 15 lbs, it'll just take more time without excersize).
1. Drink A LOT of water. The recomended amount is 1/2 of your lb body weight in oz. Drink slighly more in the summer and mroe if you are working out.
2. Drink one glass of low fat milk a day. This will help you heal and lose weight. Milk and yogurt (and any dairy but these are the best at it) are natural fat burners which target the fat around your stomach.
3. Cut sweets(or at least cut down on them). Keep some oils and fats. Nuts are good for you(in moderation) so is olive oil.
4. eat less food more often. Thin about 4-6 meals a day but these meals will be the size of snacks. A meal replacement bar is a meal just don't live off of them.
5. Have fun! Stress causes you to gain weight and keep it on. If you are worried about loseing weight then you won' lose it. Laughing burns calories so enjoy life.
6. Sleep(i know with a baby it is hard) but sleeping the 6-9 hours a night will help you lose weight.
7. Relax, and do yoga. Yoga will help you relax and allow you to gain focus and confidence. It will also help you lose weight.

Remember those last 5-15 lbs are the toughest. So don't get discouraged when it doesn't come off immediatly. Also remember that muscle weighs mre than fat so lifting weights can help you gain muscle. Sometimes you may be in better shape but weigh more because of lean muscle mass. (that is a good thing)

good luck!
