Where Should I Feel Sit-Ups?!

Question:

Where Should I Feel Sit-Ups?

I've started exercising again, as I have in the past, and both now and before, when I do sit-ups or crunches, I feel most of the tension and my muscles straining up at the top of my stomach, like right at the center beneath my ribcage. A couple of other people, however, have told me that they feel it much lower, like the lowest part of the stomach, right above the genitals.

So where should you optimally be feeling sit-ups? And why am I and others feeling them differently? We appear to be doing the exact same movement, so I'm at a loss as to why we aren't working the same muscle area.

Thanks!

Answers:

It will depend upon where the abdominals flex. The more you roll up, the higher you will flex. The straighter you keep your back, the lower the flexion. It will be difficult to keep your back very straight without keeping your legs from moving up. Bending your knees versus keeping your legs flat will also shift your ab flexion point. Just figure out what works best for you with the least neck and back stress.
