why is it that people say to wait 30 minutes before swimming/exercising after yo!

Question: Why is it that people say to wait 30 minutes before swimming/exercising after you've just eaten a meal?
why do they insist that you wait?

what will happen if you don't wait?

Answers:

If you do these activities immediately after eating, you could induce cramping or nausea. While swimming, this could be dangerous.

Experience/knowledge

i keep getting told thats its bad to swim within an hour of eating anything and that you shouldnt drink anything but water in that time. but in the past year i have been going swimming 3 times a week, withing 20mins of eating my main meal and ive never had a problem. i also do 3 aquafits a week on a nearlly full stomach as i do them within an 40mins of my main meal. i swim 4miles a week and 2.5hours of aquafit a week so in theory i should have a few cramps and things a week but no. i think its just in case you throw up or something? im not too sure tho. could be something someone made up as a joke and it got outta hand!

my experiences

Everyone has natural electric running though the body and after you eat it's mainly in the stomach and when in water the electricity in the water causes stomach cramps which while swimming can be dangerous

It's an old wise tale. Supposedly, if you don't wait you can get cramps. But, personally this has never happened to me going swimming after i finish eating.

So u can let the food digest and not have extra pressure on your stomache if you do go swimming w/o u would just get bad tummy aches

You could get a cramp in your stomach and if you are in the water you could drown.

its actually 1 1/2 hour.. your body is digesting food and you'll get a cramp if you exercise right away

So you don't get a cramp its not that big of a deal though...

Cramps
