Try eating 6 smaller meals a day. You will feel a lot less hungry. I used to eat big meals and crave food quite a bit. Now I eat smaller well spaced meals and feel and look a lot better for it.
Gum or mints are good to suck on. I just like to be tasting something. I crochet while watching TV or listening to music. This gets my mind off food. And don't wait until you're hungry to start an activity that you use to get your mind off food. When you go to watch TV, just start doing it. If you start after you're hungry, you won't be able to get your mind else where. This way, your helping your self out, and making gifts for people.
