Is it okay that I lost 50 pounds in the first month of my diet?!

Question: Is it okay that I lost 50 pounds in the first month of my diet?
I weighed about 330 pounds last month, now I'm down to 280. A friend of mine had a massive heart attack and I decided I needed to loose some weight so I eliminated all the fast food from my diet, soda, and sweets and I'm trying to eat the food pyramid. I feel really good, but I'm concerned that I'm loosing weight to quickly. Is that too much too quickly? I'm not taking any medication or starving myself.

Answers:

It really depends on the weight your body is losing. If you are exercising, in addition to changing your eating habits (bravo by the way!) then your body is probably shedding the pounds in a healthy manner. However, anything over 5 pounds a week and it becomes somewhat excessive weightloss, and because of this major transition you are making i STRONGLY suggest you talk with a doctor/nutritionist at least once, to make sure you aren't doing anything that could hurt you later on.
good luck and congrats! (I am sorry to hear about your friend though)

Considering the weight you were it, it is not dangerous.

It is a concerning amount of weight in such a small amount of time, but the more overweight you are, the faster you'll lose. Especially if you had such bad habits before.

My dad cut processed sugar out of his diet and lost 60 pounds in 35 days, but was still eating perfectly healthy.

So, if you are doing it responsibly, eating healthy and all that jazz, you should be golden! :)

Good luck, stay healthy!

that is a lot of weight. but since you eliminated so many things and completely switched to healthy foods, your body is probably detoxing and all that weight is the toxins leaving your body. it should stop coming off so rapidly when your body gets used to your new diet.
