Question:

this is probably a stupid question, but ive always wondered.....
Answers:
If tooth decay just started in the enamel, it can be re-mineralized if you maintain good oral hygiene.
Once it breaches the enamel and into the dentin, one would need a dentist to drill out the decay and fill the tooth. Decay that has reached the dentin is deep, and you cannot fix it yourself.
6 month checkups are important-- Decay will show up on the x-rays and let you catch the cavities while they are still small and easy to repair.
Hope this helps.
