Question:

Does anyone use Delta Dental in California? Have you had any good experiences with them?

I had several teeth implanted - for which I did not expect them to pay. Recently, two front teeth broke when I fell - should they not repair and/or replace them just as they would if they were your real teeth? I've been a member of Delta for years and they've always had an excuse for paying for absolutely nothing.

Answers:

I've worked with Delta Dental in both Texas and Nevada, and I've only heard good things. No, the implants would not be covered as though they are natural teeth, because they are not natural teeth.

Because of the detail that goes into creating implants with both the oral surgeon and the dentist that created the final crown (if you had two dentists) any incidental damage falls into the 'other' category. The dentist(s) provided you with post-op instructions, and you cannot have them re-done as a result of a fall/accident. I know that's not what you wanted to hear. You could argue the claim, but that could take months with no guaranteed resolution in your favor.

Dental insurance is only meant to supplement payments, not fully cover treatment, unlike medical insurance, unfortunately.

Make sure your dentist has accurate radiographs (x-rays) and intraoral pictures to send to the insurance company. That always helps with resolving any non-payment issue. You have a right to request copies of both.
