I used to work in a dentist's office and I've also had several teeth pulled. First he will rub this gel like substance on the injection site. This is supposed to slightly numb the area so it doesn't hurt so much when they pull it. I don't think it works too well. Next he will inject your gums with some type of local anesthetic like novacaine or lidacaine. This will sting a bit, but no more than any other shot. Just relax and clinch the arm rests. He'll give it a few minutes to take affect. Your mouth will start to feel like it's the size of a watermelon, but don't panic! This is normal if you look in the mirror, you will notice it hasn't really swollen up at all! Next he will wiggle it around a bit to loosen it up a little more. Then he will pull it out. If the injection is working as it should, all you will feel is pressure NOT PAIN. This is important as some people confuse pressure for pain. From what you've said, your tooth is already pretty loose so you may not even need a local anesthetic. The looser you get it, the less pain you'll feel. You may even get it completely out and you won't even have to have it pulled. So keep wiggling as much as you can tolerate. If your dentist has gas, ask for that! It's great! It makes you feel like you're floating and you won't feel a thing. Good luck! Take it like a champ and then ask your mom to take you for ice cream after your numbness goes away. One last little bit of advice. Do not by any means try to fight your dentist. He will get the tooth out with or without your cooperation, but without it, it will hurt a lot more. I wouldn't lie to you, it's not that bad.

They numb the area around your mouth.
Pull it out, Give you a cotton ball and call it a
day.

First, your dentist will try to crack a joke to losen you up. Then he will shot novacaine into your gumline. Then he will take this pair of pliers, grab the tooth, and yank it out. You will hear a nice "crunch" when it goes. Then you bleed.

It is over in no time. Have fun!

If it is just a baby tooth, it will bleed a little. They might numb it, in which case you won't feel a thing (except for the pinch of the needle, which also really doesn't hurt). Don't worry though, it will be over before you know it.

dont feel bad, i am 12 yrs. old and last week when i got braces they had a pull out a baby tooth. they put this blue stuff around it, (it tastes like toothpaste) and then they take this tweezer looking things and then they like rip out and twist it around really hard. it hurts so bad for like 4 secs when they do it, but after like not even 5 seconds it is out and it doesnt hurt anymore! donty worry i am 12 and didnt cry or anything, my guyfriend is 10 and didnt even cry, it only hurts for 5 seconds.!!! dont worry about it, and think of it this way, now you dont have to worry about the tooth flying when your eating chicken and have it land in your crush's cup. long story, i was in washington d.c. eating chicken, tooth flying, landing in hot guys cup! dont worry it will be fine!! best of wishes and good luck,
melanie

it doesnt hurt at all, i had to get 2 pulled when i was in 5th or 6th grrade, im a wimp btw....the worst part was numbing it , witch wasnt even that bad, i got myself so worked up. they numbed it- witch just feels like a pinch and then they pull it out, i clossed my eyes and i didnt even know they were done, dont worry about it... you will be fine

The dentist will numb you with an injection of Novocaine, but even before that he will numb the area of the injection so you will not feel the shot. After you are completely numb he will begin to pull the tooth out. It does not hurt, you will not feel a thing. You have nothing to worry about.
I have had two molars pulled out, and it did not hurt at all. You should tell the dentist how afraid you are so they can talk you through the procedure.
Good luck, you will be fine.

It has to come out. Period. If you are very apprehensive, they can give you Nitrous Oxide so you will be less anxious. The tooth area will given some anesthetic and you wont feel a thing.
