How can i prepare for a dental visit?.....nervous.?!

Question: I used to have the same problem. I hadn't gone for a long time and needed a lot of work done. I usually just close my eyes or watch the t.v. if they have one and realize that the whole ordeal doesn't last long at all. Before you know it it's over and you've got nice shiny teeth. I still get a little nervous right as I walk in the door, but everyone's so nice I kinda forget about it all. :P

FLOSS!!
That's a dentists main concern, that people don't floss as much as they should. Also, arrive at the dentist with a clean mouth.

You really don't need to prepare. Make sure you floss and brush before you go.

Just don't think about it, try to forget about it until you have to go. Be brave, they will be nice to you!

can't tell you that

you can prepare by brushing your teath, flossing, and what i always do (it sounds kinda wierd but it works for me) is to get a cup fill it a 1/4 with mouth wash put some water on ur tooth brush, then dip it in the cup, and brush ur teeth about ten time by brushing and then re dipping.

If your that nervous about your dental visit tell your dentist or the secretary about it. They can actually give you a very mild tranquilizer pill to take about 1 hour before your visit and it will help you. You will be relaxed and nothing will get you nervous or anxious.

Good luck...hope you have a great check up!

Like prev answers, but better care of teeth will save future pain and $$$$$$$$. as you age (gracefully, of course.)

ive been to the dentist loads.
just make sure you brush your teeth before hand,
because you dont want your dentist saying
"you need to clean you teeth," because that
would be embarrassing

i just went to the dentist earlier today.

i had to come in twice, this was the second time. i needed a deep cleaning, and a filling. the first appointment they cleaned the right left half of my teeth, and filled a tooth on the left. and my last appointment today, they cleaned the right half, and filled one tooth on the right.

they seperated it into halves so i didn't have to have novacaine on both sides of my mouth at once lol.

anyway, i have always been extremely scared of the dentist. i'm 23 now, and i was still horrified. but with today's technology, it's not that bad.

the worst part is anticipating it. you worry and stress yourself out, but... it's not as bad as you think :)

they will always make sure it's as pain-free as they can make it. they apply topical gel on your gums before they give you novacaine. the gel slightly numbs your gums, making the novacaine shot pain-free.

the only thing you should be nervous about it, if you get novacaine, worry about how your going to be able to drink anything with your mouth all numbed up. lol. you'll be spilling it out of your mouth when you try. it's kind of funny ;)

good luck! and i hope you feel better for your visit.

I am a true scaredy cat....I told them up front that I was and that I get anxious. They give me either a Xanax or a Valium and gas and then you are all good. So be up front, tell them your fears and then they will know how to act. If they can't help you with your issues...time to move on and find another. There is too many dentists out there to suffer with one that is only about the money and not about your comfort.
