Do Dentist get a 'finders fee' for a successful orthodontist referal?!

Question: For four years under military care my kids teeth are fine. The first time I take them to civilian dental care, they both need braces. Something seems crooked here and it's not my kids teeth.

General dentists refer to specialists as a courtesy and do not get a 'kick back' from them. You don't have to follow the advice/suggestions you're presented with, but it still has to be addressed.

When you were told the kids needed an orthodontic consult, were you told the reason why?

Military dentists and civilian dentists have the same thing in common: they are dental professionals who's goal is to take proper care of their patient's teeth...and refer to outside specialists if they feel the need is there.

Take the kids to a different civilian dentist for a second opinion and see what's said... that should at least give you peace-of-mind either way.

Good luck to you.

ummm......

ufr racicst

some dentists and drs get kickbacks from referrals it should not cloud their judgement anyway sounds to me like another dentists to check out possible braces

Two things:
1. The Military (CHAMPUS) will always do the minimum/

2. Doctors may or may not get bonuses for referrals - More likely the case: They merge practice pools. A Family Dentist would refer his cases to the same DDS for example. Doctors, like the rest of us, tend to stay in a small pool. The doctor is more likely to benefit from performing his own treatment scope than sending you out to a peer.

HELLO,
BRACES ARE NOT A PRIORITY IN THE MILITARY. THERE IS NOTHING 'CROOKED' HERE. PRIVATE DENTISTS WANT THE IDEAL SMILE FOR YOUR CHILDREN.
IN THE PRIVATE SECTOR DENTISTS DON'T GET A 'FINDERS FEE' FOR REFERALS.

well to get braces for a year or two (est.) it could be anywhere from $4000-$9000 depending how much work is needed. Uh, beware! Most pay plans require half the treatment upfront before they put the metal bands around the back teeth to hold the braces on.
