Extracting pre-molars for braces?!

Question:

Extracting pre-molars for braces?

well i'm gonna extract 4 pre-molars for braces and i'm scared as it sounds terribly painful. what would i feel during and directly after the process? how long does the wound take to heal and during that period what can i eat and do to reduce the pain?

Answers:

I think some of the responders were thinking of wisdom teeth removal when they replied. Good news for you, the premolar teeth are usually single rooted, which means they are pretty easy to take out. You should expect to be numb and when they are removed to feel some pressure or pushing with possibly some noise (bring your music / ipod). After you will probably be sore and want to eat softer foods. You should probably take some Advil or Tylenol before you go just in case. The wounds will heal up within a few weeks, but you will be eating normally pretty soon. Follow the instructions after you leave the office, no sucking on straws etc so you don't lose the blood clot. I had 5 teeth out the same day (2 premolars, 3 wisdom teeth) and did well without swelling or bruising. Good luck!
