Has anyone had the root of their tooth internally bleached?!
Question:
Has anyone had the root of their tooth internally bleached?
I am talking about the actual root of the tooth, not the tooth itself. I have discolouring that shows through my gum, the tooth is crowned - so does'nt need bleaching, just the root above/bnehind the gum.
If so....... was it successful? was it expensive?

hate to be the bear of bad news, but it sounds like what you are seeing is metal. There are different types of crowns. I am assuming that you have a porcelain fused to metal crown. Meaning the inside of the crown is metal (silver in color) and stacked on the outside is porcelain, which is tooth colored. Some dentists request that their be a "metal collar" on the crown. It could be that the dentists' intentions when placing this crown that the margins be set below the gumline (subgingival). Unfortunately over time, your gums can receded, and this "metal" becomes more visible. There is no whitening/bleaching agent that will fix this. The only option would be to have the crown removed and a new one made, this time specifying all porcelain or empress (there are a few other, you can consult with your dentist). Translucency is the key to aesthetic crowns.
If it is actually the root of the tooth that you are seeing, which can vary from yellowish to brown, there is still no way to whiten it. No matter what type of bleach/whitening agent you use NOTHING will change the color of the root surface. I'm sorry :(
