Gaps due to orthodontic work?!

Question:

Gaps due to orthodontic work?

im getting 4 biscuspids extracted soon, how long does it take for the gaps to close? if you had orthodontic work done, how long did i take for your gaps to close? any advice when i do get them extracted and will they be very noticable?

Answers:

If you are having 4 teeth extracted due to moderate to severe crowding, most of the space gained from the extracted teeth will be used to alleviate the crowding. The remaining space usually closes in a 2-3 months and is not very visible at all, since it is more than halfway to the back of the mouth. If, however, you are having 4 bicuspids pulled to retract the front teeth (pull them back because they are too far forward), and there is not much crowding, the spaces will be larger and will take at least twice as long to close. They are still not that visible though, and are not in the most aesthetic area of your smile. These are a general guideline, as some people's teeth move faster than others. Also, you may notice that one side, one arch (top or bottom) or a combination of both close faster than the other. Hope this helps, and good luck!
