Grinding my teeth?!

Question:

Grinding my teeth?

I have recently noticed that I have been grinding my teeth during the day. It's not so much an actual grinding as it is just gnashing my jaws together really tightly. I don't notice that I am doing it until the sides of my jaw start to hurt but I still cant stop from doing it. I have started to chew gum to help keep my mouth busy and it seems to be working a bit but having gum too long makes my mouth hurt, too.
I don't have dental insurance so I can't go see a dentist about it. Any at home remedies or ideas welcomed!

Answers:

Get to the dentist when you can!
There are those teeth protectors at the store you can buy to protect your teeth. They are not a sure way but will help at night time when you sleep.
I have been doing this for YEARS and my teeth are gone, well not gone but I do have dental problems because of it. Teeth fractures, teeth chip off, jaw problems, gum problems, exposed roots at times. It is related to stress.
Go get those teeth guards at the store they do not cost to much and will or maybe help you sleep if you grind in your sleep (which you might just do!). This also leads to sleep problems....
By the way during the day get in the habit of putting your tongue in between your teeth, a sure way of not grinding!
Wish you well.
