Toothpick at Orthodontist?!

Question:

Toothpick at Orthodontist?

This might be a silly question, but the last two times I have visited my orthodontist, they have put this toothpick that had a red tip and a blue tip in my mouth and then on my wire. Why the heck do they do that? Whats this toothpick all about??

Answers:

It is used to mark on the wire where it was placed. For instance, they may mark the on the wire where the center of your teeth should be, where teeth may meet, any odd overlaps, or anything else they may need to take note of. That way, when the doctor takes the wire out of your mouth, he can make the appropriate bends and adjustments to your wire in the right places and then put it back correctly.
