Anesthesia: will I be able to control what I say?!
Question:
Anesthesia: will I be able to control what I say?
I've heard that sometimes when they put you under anesthesia, you start to talk about crazy stuff with no inhibitions whatsoever, and you have no idea what you're saying and you can't stop.
Is this true??? Not that I have any major secrets, but I'd like to control what comes out of my mouth!
The surgery I'm having is for my wisdom teeth, so if it is true, hopefully they'll have too many things in my mouth to understand...
Answers:
I have been administering anesthesia for over 25 years, and I have just never seen this sort of thing with general anesthesia, but a lot of people worry about it.
Sometimes, when patients are emerging from general anesthesia in the recovery room, they can awaken very confused, especially if their pain is not adequately controlled, and some can become belligerent, but I have never heard any secrets being told.
