It just seems like you had a bad experience with a bad dentist. When I was little, I had to have a molar removed because it had a very bad cavity. The dentist wasn't very good and didn't do the procedure right. Ever since then I've been afraid of the dentist. I had to have two cavities filled this past summer and was a nervous wreck. I went to a different dentist and he was amazing. He was very thorough in his job and actually treated me like a real person. He even told me exactly what he was doing while doing it, this made me feel more comfortable because even though I wasn't able to see what was going on, I was able to make sure he wasn't making any mistakes or doing anything I didn't approve of. I was fine afterwards and am still afraid of dentists, but I'm no longer terrified.

Find yourself a new dentist. One that is experienced and gets great reviews from his/her patients. Remember, not all dentists are quacks...good luck!

If you let a cavity go without being treated it will rot your whole tooth out and you will eventually need a root canal, which are very expensive and even more painful. You are creating more problems for yourself if you put it off so suck it up and go. Everyone has to.

Think of it this way. You can either face the dentist now, when all you have is a cavity, or you can wait and have a much bigger, more painful problem in the future.
My advice is to find a dentist that you feel safe with. Some dentists can give you a special kind of anesthesia so that you are not fully awake during the procedure. Some also have TV's that you can watch while they work on you. Maybe you can ask to have your favorite CD played on a radio in the exam room (as long as it doesn't bother the dentist working on you). Ask if a friend or a parent can sit with you while they work. I'd also recomend scheduling something fun to do afterwards, like shopping or going to the movies, so you have something to look forward to after your visit. But the most important thing you can do is recognize that, as unpleasant as it may be, going to the dentist is very important to your overall health and taking care of health problems early is ALWAYS better than waiting until they get worse. Good luck!!

I wouldn't worry about it too much! The dentist will make it where you will not feel this. I had a cavity filled a few years ago, I didn't even know it. Also, being the filling will be between two molars, the dentist will probably use a composite filling. If they don't, don't worry, the filling will be very hard to see anyway! Good luck! Don't worry about it.
