Answers:

Wisdom teeth tend to come through in stages and that's why you sometimes get times of discomfort and then it resolves. An x-ray will confirm that there is enough room for the tooth to come through, but you can do as much as possible yourself to help before you see your dentist.

I recommend you do the following:

at home:
1. keep the area as clean as possible, brushing x 2 per day with toothbrush (best to use round head electric toothbrush) It is very important you keep the area clean.
2. Use a mouthwash containing hydrogen peroxide (available in solution at pharmacy)-is fantastic and I use it myself. Use after brushing. It will produce lots of tiny bubbles in your mouth. Spit it out but do not rinse out the last bit. Is important to hold in mouth as long as possible as the solution removes dead cells and helps new healthy ones to grow as well as killing bacteria.
3. Consider taking anti-inflammatories.

if you have no resolution of the pain(give it 48 hours) see your dentist as an emergency as you may need antibiotics. An emergency appointment will also give your dentist an opportunity to take an x-ray if he/she feels this is necessary.
