Probably the most common answer you're going to hear here is that you have TMD or TMJ.... which is possible, but I have a few questions.
--When you open your mouth does it make a clcking, popping, or grinding sound?
--Do you notice that when you wake up in the morning it is 'tighter' than after you've been awake for a while?
--Do you notice that your jaw moves to one side when you open it?
-- Do you grind your teeth at night?

You can google temporomandibular disorder and see if there's anything there that sounds like it can be you.

If so... the first thing that can help is to avoid eating things that are tough/hard. It may take a few weks of avoiding them, but you'll notice the difference. (I'm a dental hygienist and have the problem myself) the only thing I had to change was I gave up pizza crust and bagels. The change was amazing! If you do, in fact, grind your teeth there are fairly inexpensive mouth guards you can wear at night while you sleep- or there are better ones that your dentist can make you.

I hope I helped you, but if those don't sound like your symptoms, good luck figuring it out!

Has this happened before? i suggest calling the doctor, it might be serious!

One possibility to consider is TMJ. This link provides a good description as well as diagrams. Hope this helps...
