Well now my friend, what you describe is a text book symptom of a tooth that has an abscess at it's root. Your assumption that there are no roots is wrong. A root canal only removes the tooth's nerve, it doesn't remove the root...and by the way, if this is a molar tooth, they have more than one root and nerve. If all the roots weren't treated and there is still one root with the nerve in it, that one may have finally gone bad and it's possible the dentist will want to do a root canal on the remaining root. At any rate you need to see a dentists and an Xray will quickly answer all the questions and provide you what has to be done to accomplish taking care of the present situation. Good luck and I wish you well.

Capped huh? Something maybe got inside. 5 years is enough time for that to occur. Breaks off a little and BAM. Pain.

Dentist is all I can say.

abcess maybe.. go see your dentist.

Some times they can leave pulp in there because your root curves and they can't get down there to the bottom. Maybe it became infected again. You need to get to the dentist. PRONTO!

well if I were I would avoid the dentist at all costs ride out the pain

You should go back to the dentist. Sometimes even after a tooth has a root canal and is capped it has to be removed.

have you consisdered it may not be the tooth since the nerves are gone but the surrounding gums around it

Sounds like an abscess, call the dentist quickly.

When they do a root canal sometimes they can leave a pocket where infection can grow. Go to your dentist as soon as you can to get it xrayed to see what's going on in there. Good luck, i feel for you, toothaches are worse than childbirth!

I dont know much about dentistry but is it possible that the cap came off?

To relieve the pain try Orajel to help and tylenol.

I would get yourself to a dentist ASAP if the pains are that bad.

My husband had the same thing happen. Sometimes the root canal procedure wasn't deep enough to get out the infection and then when it is capped it makes it worse.
I would go to the same dentist and tell him your concerns. Also, my hubby's cap wasn't put on properly.

You will have to see a dentist. It could be a bad job to begin with or it could be that you have some other infection in the jaw. If you can only get to a doctor get him to give you some antibiotic which kills anaerobic bacteria, e.g. Flagyl.

Same thing happened to me a few weeks ago, but I had missing teeth Next to the root canal, I was chewing on some nachos and seems like it cut through my gums and I suspect it infected my gums?

I took some pencillian /antibiotics, and it cured the problem right up :) ???

P.s: I had the penicilan left over from my last episode, advil should help with the pain.

I don't know why, but I found a way to get rid of the pain,at least it worked for me.When I was suffering from two toothaches at the same time without benefit of dental insurance or cash; I turned to the internet and found some homespun solutions at least will temporarily ease the pain. Vicks Vaporub. That's right,Vicks Vaporub. You just smear some of the stuff on the outside of your jaw where the toothache is and it will give you some relief. It worked for me.By the way, it sounds like you've got some kind of infection in your jaw maybe even in the tooth right next to where you had your root canal.Hope this helps you out.

maybe it has become infected again due to leakage or incomplete root canal therapy, and it has formed an abscess which can cause pain.this time the pain is not from the teeth because during the root canal therapy the pulp( containing the nerves of tooth )is removed.the abscess is in the tissue surrounding the tooth were the nerves are and causes pain, this pain happens specially during biting.
you better visit your dentist for clinical examination.
good luck
