it doesnt hurt as much. Tell the dentist you are slightly worried and hhe should numb your mouth so you wont feel a thing

Is there any other options besides having the tooth pulled? [I.E. root-canal, filling, crown] If you are worried about the cost, then most dentists offer installment payments so it is easier to have a tooth properly repaired than to get it pulled.
Unless it's a wisdom tooth it's usually quite straightforward.
I had a premolar out on local anaesthetic once. A fair bit of pressure but no pain and didn't last that long.
You can have sedation or even be knocked out if you are still worried. I was usually knocked out with gas for anything involved up to 17 as I was often a nervous patient. It was free though on the British NHS as I was a minor. Can be expensive if you have to pay for it.
