Bad taste after tooth extraction?!

Question: i had a molar removed a week ago (absess was underneath) and have since had a foul tase and smell coming from the socket. i am using a slat water wash in my mouth a few times a day and corsodil mouth wash, but the tast and smell is still there. what exactly is the taste, and when will it get better? is there anything i can do to speed things up as it's putting me off food. i dabbed the area and some awfull smelling brown stuff came away. please help as it's making me feel sick!

you will still have the rot coming from the abcess...that takes a while to go & the anti biotics usually sort that. it will go in time...it's quite natural after an extraction/infection.

It is the poison still coming out from the abscess and if you weren't you ought to have been given a course of penicillin to clear up the infection from this abscess. Not only will it be very painful but it also very dangerous if this poison enters your blood stream.

I suggest very strongly that you contact your dentist immediately for advice. Meantime swill your mouth round with salt water.

I hope the problem clears up very soon

yep its called a dry socket....... mouth wash I wouldn't use
that could be irritating it) still use as hot as you can salty water as a rinse and book in to see your dentist again, if your still undergoing treatment they will see within 24 hours. he will see what amount of infection is there clean it up (if hes able to) and give antibiotics.

If there was an absess underneath, that is what will be causing the horrible smell and taste. It's an infection, so it's full of dead cells. The antibiotics you're taking should have helped kill off any nasty bacteria, but if you're having problems you should go to your dentist. It's also possible that a bit of the root was left inside the socket, so that should definately be checked out. In the mean time keep using the Corsodyl and the salt water.

To definately rule out dry socket you have to ensure you are not doing anytthing on a regular basis that alters the pressure within your mouth, such as drinking with a straw? If it definately isn't dry socket then it is most likely to be the abscess contents, ensure you are taking the antibiotics as instructed because even missing a day can cause healing to slow or stop and if the problem is still there when the antibiotics end then please go back to the dentist, they cant help if they cant see the problem and you may need a repeat prescription. For now carry on with the rinse but I would suggest lowering the salt rinse to just once in the day where possible, Corsodyl just swish round the area and ensure you are brushing the other teeth but avoiding the area where the extraction has occurred. Good luck and breath spray won't do you any harm to try and rid of the taste.
