Can you put veneers over a crown??!

Question: Can you put veneers over a crown!?!?
I have a crown on my front tooth that has been there for 20 years!. I would like to whiten my teeth but the crown will not lighten!. It's more expensive for a new crown so i thought i could put a veneer over it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry, it will not work adequately!.
The crown will have to have much of its porcelain ground off so the final result will not be too large!. Then the veneer has to be bonded to the existing porcelain!. This is possible, but VERY difficult to achieve, and is best done with hydrofluoric acid which is EXTREMELY dangerous!. Some say that using phosphoric acid will work but it is not adequate!. Finally, to lighten a surface with a veneer is really difficult because the veneer, to look realistic, needs to be translucent!. If it is translucent, it will let colour from the structure beneath to show through and so the result will be unsatisfactory!.

So!.!.!.get your teeth bleached until you are happy with the colour, then get a crown placed to match the bleached teeth!. That is the only way you will get a satisfactory result with which you will be happy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I agree with Kent!. Whiten your teeth to your desired shade and get an all porcelain crown!. Because your tooth has been prepped already for a crown, it has had too much structure removed to just have a veneer!. Bonding the veneer to porcelain would be a waste of your money because the chance of it working is pretty slim!. It would probably come off and then you would have to do the crown anyway and then have spent double!. It's worth the money, especially in your smile line!. The Procera crowns or another all porcelain are so good, most people can't tell the difference!Www@Answer-Health@Com

when you get veneers your teeth need to be filed!. so it may be a case of just filing the crown down!. i think it may work out cheaper to get a new crown i am not sure i only say this as there is a lot of prep work for a veneer but as you already have a crown the impressions etc would be minimal!. not sure if this helps message me if you have more questions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sorry, but you can't add a veneer on top of a crown!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
