Terrified of the dentist but need root canal?!

Question: Terrified of the dentist but need root canal!?
I need to get a root canal on my bottom front tooth and possibly the one next to it!. The one died from trauma in an accident years ago and than spread infection to the other one!. I developed an abscess and need to get this done ASAP!. However, I have a terrible fear of dentists!. I feel like I'm hyperventalating and going to pass out and dizzy and just scared to death!. Do root canals hurt!? Any tips to get thru this!? I go to the Edodontist on Tues for the consult and than I see what happens, but I am just so scared!.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"Cash" gave a good answer!. In addition, to your benefit, if a tooth is abscessed that means that it is completely dead so technically, a root canal could be done without any anesthetic (the main purpose of the anesthetic when we treat an abscessed tooth is to numb the gums so that we can put a rubber dam on and also just in case there is a little bit of nerve tissue left or in case the root canal treatment extends a little bit out the end of the tooth!. Regarding pain during treatment, I think the main thing is to find a dentist who cares about you and does not want you to be in pain!.!.!. and who would be willing to send you home and have you back at another time if they were unable to completely numb you!. Endodontists are generally very good at giving anesthetic because they often have to deal with "hot" teeth which are very difficult to numb (your tooth is not "hot")!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My sister had one and said it didn't hurt, they most likely give you novacaine first so it numbs your mouth for like 3 hours maybe 4 and you wont feel anything at all!. I hope you know though, novacaine is given in a shot!.

If you weren't afraid of the dentist you wouldn't need a root canal in the first place!. It's the friggin truth, don't deny it, thumbs down doesn't hurt my feelings lmao! Thumb me down morons!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had four root canals and the procedure doesn't hurt!.You will be given an anesthetic(usually a shot of Novocaine)!.Before you get the injection the Dentist will numb the area and you should feel only a pinch!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Im having one this tuesday My moms had three she said that the worst part is when they stick the shot into your gums to make it numb!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
