Answers:
Cold sores are caused by a certain strain of the herpes virus. Dont get grossed out or alarmed because a very large amount of the population carries the herpes virus in this form.
Outbreaks can be triggered by such things as stress, extreme temperatures, abrasions, and so forth. It might be that the anesthesia irritated your lip a bit and caused an outbreak.
If I remember correctly, the virus basically is always looking for a place to exit your lip. When something of this sort happens and weakens the area, it forms the blister.
However, it may be a different type of blister. If you've had cold sores on your lip before, it is probably the same thing and just caused an outbreak.
I'm a medic. I get cold sores.
Cold sores are latent viruses that come and go from time to time. It is not uncommon for cold sores to come up following dental appointments. The reason is due to the anxiety and stress of the appointment, not by the procedure itself.
Hope that helps,
