no, chewing ice isnt a cause of gingivitis but you are putting your teeth at risk for a fracture..the cold ice on your teeth can cause your teeth to become weaker and more brittle plus the hardness of the ice and pressure against your teeth can cause them to get chipped.or worse,but thats if your chewing like an ice cube.but if its like crushed ice and you can chew it easily then you have nothing to worry about:)

chewing ice is a sign you're low on iron! I never chewed ice, then all of a sudden I craved it! Chewed it daily for two years! Ended up at Dr's for something and found out I was very low on iron. As SOON as I got on iron pills, my craving for ice went away as mysteriously as it appeared! Haven't chewed ice since! It's horribly rough on your teeth!!

It shouldn't cause gingivitis.. but it can promote tooth damage if you do it a lot..
