Question: I am having pain in the gum area around 1 of my wisdom teeth, does that necessarily mean it needs to be pulled?

Nope it doesn't. Your gums could just be inflamed. I would go to the dentist though and have them check it out just to make sure everything is okay.

No, of course not.It means you might have something called pericoronaritis(inflamation of the tissue gums surrounding your tooth).You should consult a dentist to see if you do.if you don't go to a dentist and you have it, it might get worse, infected, you can develop a fever, trismus(the inability to open your mouth as you normally do) etc.now don't get scared, it's not as bad as it sounds, but you should have it checked.if it's not inflamed or red(more intense than the gum surrounding it), you probably don't have it.if your wisdom tooth is still in the eruption state, the pain is usually a normal occurrence.hope this helps.cheers!
