Is my tooth extraction area healing properly?!

Question: Is my tooth extraction area healing properly?
I got my tooth taken out on Thursday and it's fine now, no pain and can eat gently on the other side. However, where the blood clot was dark red, it's now brownish/greyish in colour and the gum at the side is white. Is this normal?
I'm scared of a dry socket because I have a bad taste in my mouth and my breath smells slightly, however i'm not in any pain.
I haven't been using toothpaste as yet as I didn't want it to go in the area, but should I?
I've been using salt water a lot to try and cleanse the area.

Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Answers:

Stale blood can cause some bad breath after an extraction especially as the blood becomes stale.
Not cleaning your teeth since Thursday will be the cause of the bad breath.

You can carefully clean your teeth gently with a toothbrush and just avoid that particular area and this will help solve the bad breath that has occurred because of no cleaning properly. The salt rinse alone is not effective as a cleaner on it's own.

If you had a dry socket the smell and taste is unbelievable and you would know and never forget it and it is agony!
