I would go by what the dentist said- you have two open wounds in your mouth from where the teeth were pulled, and the only thing I would worry about is food getting caught up in there, which could turn into a putrid infection once trapped. I know that they were sewn shut, but even the smallest particle of food can get caught, so I'd rinse really well with the syringe afterwards, and chew only on the left side. But that is only if you are desperate. Take small bites and start with soft foods, then work your way up to solids just to see how you fare.
Good luck, and try calling the dentist to find out what is best.
I think I would try and eat something but would use caution in the foods I picked. I think eggs are a good choice. Bagels are usually very chewy and won't break down easily if they get stuck in the spaces where your teeth were pulled. I think mashed potatoes would also be a good choice.
Good luck and hope you heal fast.
