Question: I am getting 3 injections at the dentist! Tooth extraction, I am petrified and I have been avoiding this...?
I have had experience with injections in my mouth. The last time I took an injection at the dentist was for a filling, the dentist gave me this bubble gum flavoured pink thing to bite which burnt my tounge and made my mouth feel a tiny tiny tiny bit numb, then my dentist went ahead with the injection (I didn't look at the needle, I have an extreme phobia of injections, it took me a while to take it) then once they gave it to me it killed so bad! I felt it puncture through my skin (and this was all straight after having the bubble gum numbing thing) i felt it go through my skin and into my gums, and I thought it was all over, but guess what my dentist accidently put it in the wrong place! So she had to do it again!!
I am hearing from people that you can hardly feel it, and those people used some sort of cream. So the last time I had a filling (the second time I needed a filling) I didn't take the injection and went ahead with all the drilling. It hurt a LOT less than the injection and I am telling you now.
I am sick of hearing how people couldn't fleel it when I could!! Take a look at this question:

They are saying it feels like a pinch thats all and all that crap, is this because they were given something better than me? Because I could feel everything! EVERYTHING!
And now I need 3 teeth taken out for my braces, 2 at the top of my mouth and one at the bottom.
What should I tell my dentist when she gives me this bubble gum thing that makes my tounge feel like it was dipped into acid? My mum (at a her private dentist) got all sorts, veneers etc and she could not feel any of the injections and guess what she was given this cream thing, I am freaking 14 and I have been waiting for braces for 4 years now, only 2 years ago I found out I needed these teeth taken out, but because whenever I went to the appointments I refused I just didn't get my teeth taken out
What should I do?

I had to have 3 injections at the dentist a week today ago. I'm 13 and i was absolutely petrified! i was crying and blubbering:'/ but once i got in the chair, it was over in about 5 seconds! I didn't even feel the needle, it was just like a sharp prick more than real pain! It's over very soon, and i find that doing some of theses techniques really help...
1. KEEP YOUR EYES CLOSED
2. Breath in deeply when the needle is in your mouth
3. Think of something exciting where you can go afterwards
Trust me, i have rubbish pain tollerance, and it was NOT as bad as i was imagineing!!

Ask them for Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) you'll hardly feel it. They do need your Mom's permission tho.
The bubble gum stuff is the cream your talking about, its called topical anesthetic, and it works better in some parts of the mouth than others. Same goes with the injections, some parts of the mouth it hurts more than others. Laughing gas will not make the pain any less, but it will help take your mind off of the injection. I recommend my patients bring an ipod or some kind of mp3 player to listen to, it helps to relax you! Good luck!!
