These are questions you should ask your dentist.
Hi there , well I work in an Oral Surgery Clinic in Scotland and do around 7 of these procedures per week. Firstly the dentist will put a topical gel on to your gum to numb it before the injections, the gel is great and works fast. You don't feel the needle going into your gum at all and then before you know it your mouth and lip starts to numb. They may need to top this up but you will not feel this as you are already numb. The teeth will be exposed by the gum being lifted back to show them, the gum is then shortened and stitched into place with dissolving stitches. You WILL be swollen as with all surgery but with regular pain killers you should be fine. The mouth is the fastest place to heal in the body. Get an ice pack and hold this on to the area that swells and this will help. Eating should be kept to soft foods such as soups and pastas for a few days until you feel like chewing again. The dentist will give you post op advice notes to take home and this tells you what to do, but all you really need to do is a saltwater mouth rinse 3-4 times a day for a week and brush your teeth as normal but gently around the exposed teeth. Good luck for your exposure and yahoo again if you need more advice.
