Gums bleeding when cleaning teeth, what does it mean?!

Question: Gums bleeding when cleaning teeth, what does it mean?
I've been using an electric toothbrush since Christmas, but today I switched back to a normal brush, while cleaning I noticed my lower gums were bleeding.
Should I be worried or is this normal, when making the transition from electric toothbrush to normal toothbrush?

Answers:

Totally believe me the other week I had to go to my orthodontist and they said I had red and puffy gums. So they asked me Do they bleed when you floss or brush and I said yes is that bad brushed and flossed my teeth and they said when they bleed it's just a bacteria build up. My mom asked if it's normal when you don't have braces and they said yes. So yes it is normal that your teeth are bleeding when you brush. Calm down.

:)

It is definitively not normal. Could be anything. I will go over the obvious ones. You have some crowding in the front lower teeth. Because of this you are collecting a lot of plaque which hardens and becomes tartar. This causes irritation of the gum and the bleeding. Another reason could be that you do not floss. No matter how much you brush or what you brush with you will never get in between the teeth to get the plaque out. This will cause chronic bleeding. Gum disease is another one. Another reason could be that when you brush manually, you brush too hard. Next time, pay attention when you brush to see if you do place excessive pressure on the teeth in certain areas. Could be other things. If this doesn't help go see your dentist because it could be something more serious.

You have a mild case of gingivitis, which is a bacterial infection of the mouth, and requires brushing and flossing on a regular basis. You should invest in a good oral rinse that does not contain alcohol.

Alcohol drys the mouth out, and bacteria flourishes in dry conditions. You should drink plenty of water and increase your Vitamin C intake. Also, before bedtime use a good oral rinse that keeps the mouth lubricated during sleeping hours.

In the morning, try gargling with salt and warm water to soothe your gums.

Hello, When your gums bleed during brushing 98% of the time it means you don't have the healthiest gum tissue..You may have the beginning issues of Gingivitis, then on the other hand it may be that your diet is not providing the essential vitamins to keep your gums in top health....Diets that are missing enough vitamins A>B>E>C> & Zinc will leave your gum tissue soft and subject to bleeding., which in the long run can lead to more serious issues. You first need to see a dentist to ascertain you already have Gingivitis..then you need to make sure you have a healthy diet. Good luck and I wish you well.
