Wisdom Teeth question... tooth left behind?!

On Jan 6th I had all wisdom teeth taken on plus to molars on the bottom closest to the back. Lately i felt pain on the lower back left side and thought it was a sore life if i bit my tongue or something. Well the pain gets worse and worse and I think that it's a piece of the missing tooth. Should I wait and see if it will eventually surface or go back to the dentist and check it out? It hurts pretty bad when i eat or acidently brush my tongue next to it.
