Infected wisdom tooth. Antibiotics made it worse?!

Question: Infected wisdom tooth. Antibiotics made it worse?
Hello
I have an infected wisdom tooth that has been causing me excruciating pain since Thursday.
I went to a dentist on Friday and they couldn't fit me in for an extraction until February. They just gave me a prescription for amoxicillin and tylenol 3. No pain medication is working whatsoever (not even vicodin and ibuprofen!!)
I am in the worst pain ever, and I even have a high tolerance for pain. This is really making an impact on my life.

My wisdom tooth was partially erupted and then it became infected, I suppose
The gums were only covering half of the top of my tooth before I started taking the antibiotics. Now my gums have swollen to cover the entire tooth and made a little mountain sort of thing over the tooth also.
I have been taking 3 antibiotics a day since Friday and the pain has become worse and my tongue, ear, and throat all hurt now as well. Also, my gums have started bleeding when I brush my teeth, which wasn't previously the case.

I'm trying to find a dental appointment to go to tomorrow since I am desperate...
but I want to know if anyone knows what's going on?
should I stop taking the antibiotics? I swear my mouth hurts more about an hour or so after I take the antibiotics...

Please be helpful. Thank you.

The tooth needs removed asap as the gum is infected and is traveling into your ear and throat region which is common but not nice at all. The antibiotics could be changed to another type therefore you must go back immediately and ask for better ones, they normally give Amoxicillin as a universal drug which works for all infections but for wisdom teeth infections the best one is Metronizadole, now I work in Scotland so it might be named different where you are, this is a strong one and you cannot drink alcohol with it or you need hospitalized as it has a reaction with alcohol. Gums inflamed and irritated will bleed a lot more and swell a lot more. The best pain meds i could recommend (UK) based are Ibuprofen 2x500mg every 4 hours and Dicolfenac 2x50mg or Tramadol. Google this to see what it is named where you are. Keep rinsing with a saltwater mouthwash to keep bacteria at bay and mouth clean. An impacted wisdom tooth especially infected creates major issues with the lower and upper jaw bone as it spreads and this alone is really really sore, the pressure also on other teeth is painful. I see around 150 Oral Surgery cases per week all with wisdom teeth issues and around 2 out of 10 are the same as you. The only solution is extraction as once a wisdom tooth becomes infected it will re occur again and again. You must note that extraction may not be possible if there is an active infection as these types of teeth can be very difficult to numb up. A change in antibiotics will help and hopefully ease your pain and erase the infection so you can get this dam tooth out. Good luck x

I am so sorry to learn about your pain. I know wisdom tooth pain is worst of its kind. My wisdom tooth is not fully developed. Sometimes gums behind it get swollen and pain a lot.

I would suggest rinsing your mouth specially at the wisdom tooth area with warm water and salt in it. You can also apply some clove oil over the swollen gums.

Don't stop the antibiotics. Call the dentist's office. He should have an emergency answering service that can get a message through. If he can't get you in on an emergent basis, have him refer you to other offices that can.

Used to work for a dentist.

It should be useful. http://in-magazine.info/259685/pain-medication Gooooood luck (:
