Why do I always choke when I drink water or orange juice?!

Question: What is it about these two liquids in particular? No matter how careful I am not to gulp or drink to quickly, both water and orange juice always go down the wrong way. Other liquids don't do this to me.

Anybody out there have this happen to them? Know why?

The trick is temperature. Drink your drinks either COLD or HOT. The difference in temperature allows your throat to sense incoming liquid properly and close off your airway. When you drink liquids close to your own body temperature it is more difficult for your throat to sense the difference.
And now for my sweeping generalization:
Go to the dentist and get your teeth fixed.
Most people who deliberately drink body temperature fluids do so because their teeth hurt when they drink hot or cold fluids.

Its a psychological thing. Not physical

Hahahah sorry don't mean to laugh but i relate to you. must be a female thing.... my mum is the only one i know who can choke on nothing at all lol. .... my suggestion; sip those drinks

It isn't the liquid iteself, so it must be something in the OJ or the water.

i get that sumtimes and i think i do that with orange juice becuase i dont like it so much...maybe its what is in the the water an orange juice...water can be gross tasting too

my grandaughter (who is 5) has this happen to her all the time with water only. I think it is psycological she hates drinking water but she cant just drink juice and milk if you get any solid answers, would love to hear back thank you and good luck
