Why is the pharmacy area in stores always a step or two higher than the main flo!

My understanding is that it's a security precaution.

When the person behind the counter is taller and/or looking down from a higher point, people are less likely to reach across and help themselves to what they want. It's a kind of psychological trick.

There are certain places that are more "tempting" to theft than others and many use this set-up.

i would think that its probably because the pharmacy area would actually have drugs and medication that could really affect you, not just shampoo & stuff.
so the step would probably make you aware of that, i reckon.

it was like that in the old days i am not sure why i think so it is easier for the pharmacy people to talk to u
