Annoying eye lid spasm?!

Question: Lately the outside top corner of my right eyelid will randomly twitch. No one seems to notice it, but its destracting when Im trying to do something. Its just like a little flutter that will happen for a second and then stop. What could this be from. My friend said maybe too much caffiene, but I dont drink coffee and I actually quit drink soda a few weeks ago so I know its not that.

Is there a reason it does this and how do I keep it from happening?

Eye twitches are very common and typically caused by excessive fatigue or stress. The technical term for an involuntary eye twitch (spasm) is Blepharospasm. Some people find eye twitching a result of nothing more than anxiety. The top triggers are:
- stress/anxiety
- lack of sleep
- fatigue

What do you do?
Try and relax, find ways to relieve stress, and make sure you are getting enough sleep. Over time, the twitch should go away. And most likely, this is not the last time you will experience an eye twitch.

Stress

Wow ,,, that exact thing has started happening to me!! maybe lack of sleep??

it's usually caused by a lack of calcium and gets worse if you happen to not be getting enough sleep.

my eye does that sometimes to and i believe mine is due to stress.

Many times it is caused by excessive eye strain, especially if you sit in front of the computer alot. Try to take breaks in between your visits to the computer.

i thought it was just me that got those. thats cool u posted a question about it now we can both know y it does this.

It will eventually go away. Avoid caffiee like your friend suggested. Try to find ways to relax your eyes and avoid stressors in your life.

I work on computers all day, so my eyes are always stressed, I had to find ways to relax the eyes and then the twitches went away.

Sometimes it can happen because of stress or lack of sleep. That happened to me before, but then went away. If it doesn't go away in a week or two, I would go see a doctor. Good Luck!

It is a muscle spasm..
check out this site it will help..

Happens to me too from time to time. I've heard people say that it might be caused from stress or lack of sleep.

When I was younger, my cousin told me that depending on which eye twitches it could be a sign or good or bad luck coming your way. I don't know how much I believe that one.

haha i get that too

but not very often i find it happen's when i open my eyes wide to look at something lol it starts to twitch but it feels like people can see it. it usually goes away shortly after it appears lol x

Caffiene, stress and a lack of sleep are involved but sometimes its just a little twich can last one minute upto 1 week ive had it for a week straight, but don't worry it'll go i thought mine wouldnt but it did.

hope that helps

that same thing has happened to me many times, and it seems the only things that worked for me was to manage a better sleeping habbit. nothing over 8 hours, and nothing less than 5.5. also dont try to stay awake for more than 20 hours, because that can over work your eyelids.

u cant stop it. i get it sometimes, have u ever noticed when u ask other ppl if they can see it happening to u they say no

I have had this same twitching the last couple yrs. I think it is stress, and I was becoming completely in love with my morning coffee. The coffee must be a crutch, but I still like it, and enjoy 1/2 decaf/1/2 caf in the pot I make at home, then take to work in a thermos/insulated coffee cup.

It also seemed to clear up the last couple months after I left a particularly stressful job. The job wasn't that bad in itself, but the boss was similar to Devil Wears Prada x10 (if you know that movie with Meryl Streep). My body was constantly on alert, and I was eating very infrequently, but gaining weight. Then dentist made me a mouth guard, to wear daytime only!! Such a relief now, and no eye twitching!

So, look at the stress in your life and see what small steps you can do. I bought some meditation cd's and loaded to my Ipod - listen to at night before you go to sleep. Relaxing each part of your body - you'll get a more restful night.
