Does toothpaste...?!
Question: does toothpaste really help get rid of zits?
Answers: does toothpaste really help get rid of zits?
only if they don't have heads yet. leave it on overnight, and they're much smaller by morning. but if it already has a head, it doesn't do diddly squat for it. i had to find that out for myself, b/c no one ever specified, lol
oh, and make sure its paste, not gel!!
Hello,
Situation: There's no scientific evidence to support this claim, and it's not intended for this purpose. Folks claiming this might just see the result and assume it helped: "assimilation fallacy" or "invalid correlation without causation." In fact, many report it causes redness. [1]
Solution: Stick with science, because if it really worked, someone would've found a way to repackage it. The older products containing salicylic acid rarely worked for me, dried me out and caused redness. Other products are available. [2] Permanent solutions: First line option is to take a course of antibiotics. [3] The nuclear option: change your skin with Accutane, effectively killing off oil glands. [4] Of course, this could leave you with dry skin problems when you get older ( you'll look young forever, naturally. :) ), causes severe skin redness and potential for liver problems and birth defects while taking it. [5] A chemical peel a year or so after elimination of the problem, either naturally or with medications, can smooth out acne-related damage. [6]
DISCLAIMER: I am not a dermatologist or MD.
QUALIFICATIONS: I have moderately sensitive skin. At almost 30, I still have an occasional pimple or two, caused by infection of overly-healthy oil glands. (Washing more with the right kind of soap is key.)
