Any nurses here please answer......?!

Question: hi. i'm 24 male thinking about becoming a nurse. I know that nurses are in very high demand right now and know that it's a very good paying and secure job. My problem is that i don't get along real great with people. I mean i can get along most of the time i just don't like talking to people. Know what i mean? so my question is, Is nursing more about taking care of the physical needs of people or is it more on the emotional side? Also i'd like a description of what nurses do exactly. THANKS!!!!!

A degree as an RN is very marketable. I am one, and I can get employment almost globally. Being nurturing is not only a female characteristic, and I work with a lot of male Rn's who are definitely not sissies. So just do what feels right, and be proud and confident with your ability.

If you dont know what they do how do you know you want to be one,,,,it is a very serious profession,,,,before you make any career choice research the position,,,

It is a combination of the two.

However, there are nursing specialities that have less interaction with the emotional needs of patients.

I would argue that being a good nurse is 50 - 50.
50% being safe, competent, skilled and knowledgeable
50% aattitude and mentality, your personality as a nurse is terribly important. It makes the difference when you build a therapeutic relationship with a patient. If a patient does not feel that they can not communicate with you then you will never meet all their needs.
Saying that I respect you for taking the time explore this new career for your self. There are some areas of nursing that you may be more suited for. May I suggest that you see a career counselor for health care as they made be able to advise you better.
Good luck

Hello. If you are intrested in nursing then by all means you go for that education.
I am a 55 year old male that has been in nursing since 1973(started as a surgical medic in Viet Nam) and currently am an orthopedic implant specialist/inventory manager.
