I happen to have real bad allrgies and a little headache as well this evening?!

Question: So what else could I do to give myself some relief from this besides just taking medicine?

Definately go see an allergist and get tested. See if shots once a week are right for you. Hubby has been on shots for 2 years and has seen a substantial improvement with his allergies. He definately gets sinus headaches less frequently, too.

Try different allergy medicines, as what works for Joe may not work for Sam.

Do the nasal washes suggested. You can even buy a kit at the pharmacy with everything you need in it except the water. Sounds gross but really does work to help flush out all of that.

Improve the air quality of your home by keeping things dusted and clean and vaccuuming carpets/upholstery. The in-room air filters really don't do nearly as good a job as a whole house purifier that goes right in with your HVAC system (yea that's expensive - how comfortable do you want to be in your own home??)

Get allergy tested and get the shots once a week. After years of suffering i finally did it and after 6 months i can breathe and i do not suffer anymore.

Only 1,
Have you seen your physician to discuss your allergies? If not, I would definately give him or her a call.
My allergies have also kicked it up several notches in the past two weeks. I am now taking two Allegra 180's a day along with a decongestant (pseudophedrine) - just to manage a baseline effect.

I called my doc today asking what else I could do, it was suggested that I pick up Zyrtec or Claritin (loradatine) to add in while my allergies are at their pinacle. Since I know that Claritin does not work for me, I might and I just might do this, check out some Zyrtec.

I have also taken the advice of "thegemeni" and my friend and am trying BIOALLERS - Bioallers is a natural option - and I totally prefer this - however for me, my allergies are such that its been a whole week and the only thing that is different for me (in using the nasal spray) is a stuffier nose and continued worsening of my allergies. But I know if I give the homeopathic remedies long enough they might just make a difference.

For immediate help, try taking a shower - hot & steamy. Wash off all the pollen that transported in from the outside. Using steam can help relax the respiratory muscles for easier breathing. It could also help to "unclog" the sinus'.

I've also started nasal rinses. Sounds horrid but its really not that bad. Its 8 ounces of warm water, 1/4 tsp non iodized salt, and 1/8 tsp of baking soda. Let it pour in one nostril and out the other, keeping your mouth open to breathe.

I might try checking in with your local Coop for some ideas on the natural remedies - there are many out there that might just help you.
