Knee cap bone that moves?!

Question: On both my legs when I lay them straight, I can move my knee cap from left to right and up and down. It doesn't hurt at all. I know this is a weird question, but is this normal? can anyone else do this? why is this possible? Thanks!

Yes. It's normal. Your knee cap is a "floating" bone. It is basically connected to a bunch of ligaments in your knee to protect the joint from damage.

It's because it is somewhat moble however that knee injuries can be so serious... But yes. Completely normal.

side to side movement is normal..but up and down is not.
The knee cap is a floating bone held in place at the top by your quad muscle...and held at the bottom by the tibial tendon. when the quad contracts (shortens) it pulls on the knee cap and since the connection of the knee cap is to the tibia (lower leg bone)...the lower leg extends (straightens out)

I can do it too!
=D
I've always thought it was weird, but my sister can too so I wasn't worried about it..

yes its normal
