Need definition of medical term.?!

Question: Need definition of medical term!.!?
I enjoy reading BBC while at work and I just read an interesting article about a young woman who died right after diving!. The article doesn't say what she died of, only that she performed the dive into the ocean and when she came up she spoke to her fiance on the boat then collapsed and later died!. The article says she 'suffered the bends'!.
I have no idea what this means!. Did she drown!? Is this possible after being able to speak and move around on a boat after being out of the water!? Is it organ failure from diving too deep perhaps!?
If anyone knows what 'suffered the bends' means, please, discuss!. Thank you so much!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
"The Bends" is decompression sickness and is a scuba-diving related disorder!. Small pockets of nitrogen form in the body tissues and blood stream and can proceed to the brain when surfacing to quickly after a long or deep dive!. These nitrogen bubbles can go to the brain, spinal cord, lungs, or skin; resulting in blindness, dizzinesss, unconsciousness, paralysis, itch, rash, and pain!. The best way to prevent the bends is to avoid surfacing too quickly!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is decompression sickness, there are inert gases that are dissolved in the blood and tissue like nitrogen!. When a diver goes down the body goes underpressure and the gases change because of the pressure!. when the diver ascends to quickly the lungs to not have enough time to rebalance the gases and so they have to do something and they turn into bubbles in the blood stream!.

If this happens they can put a diver into a decompression chamber pump up the compression reform the gas and slowly bring him back up in compressions!. This of course is just a simple version of what really goes on!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The bends is Decompression sickness!.!.!. that will be easier to look up!. Its when you dive too deep for too long and nitragen bubbles form in your blood stream!.!.!. and kill you!

They have a decompression chamber they put you in for a few hours(days!?) to get rid of the bubbles!. Its usually non-fatal, but if you dont know you have it!.!.!. well!.!.!. you collapse and die!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
