What should we expect after my husband has his tonsils out!

Question: What should we expect after my husband has his tonsils out
He is 25 and will be having his tonsils out and his uvula trimmed and "about five minutes of work done in the nose!." His tonsils are in the top 5 of biggest our ENT has ever seen!. He's not sick from them but does have really bad sleep apnea!.
They told us he will have to be in the hospital overnight after the surgery to "monitor him!." Is that normal!? Why will he need to stay!? what are they watching for!?
I want to know what to expect after for like recovery and all that!.
What will he feel like after he comes out of surgery!? How long will it be before he will want something to eat/drink!? What is good for him to have!? How long does the pain last!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
It is very very painful!. I didn't eat for 10 or more days!. I could only drink Ice cold water and even that was painful!. Steroids and lortab elixer worked best for me!. Tonsilectomy is usually a outpatient surgery but maybe since he is having his uvula trimmed, there is more of a risk for post op bleeding or swelling!. They probably just want to keep a closer eye on him!. As for how long does the pain last, it was bearable after 2 weeks and then a slight sore throat for like a few months!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

expect a really big whiner!. He will be fine!. He will be in pain but it will pass!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

They say the older a person is when they have a tonsilectomy, the harder it is on them & their recovery time is a bit longer!. Yes, it's normal to be hospitalized at his age, so they can monitor his vitals & make sure there is no excessive bleeding after the surgery!. You have lots of post- op questions & you need to ask the doctor so both of you together, will hear the answers & instructions that the doctor will send home with your husband!. Everyone recovers at a different pace, so you'll have to wait & see how your husband does once he gets home!. I can tell you, that his throat will be sore & he'll probably be on a "soft" diet or a "full liquid diet" for a while!. Wait & see what the doctor says!. My best to your husband!. I'm sure he'll do just fine!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
