The answer to your question is could be yes, if you're starting with a flat foot and going to a more arched foot, because this would shorten your foot!.

I've got a flat foot too, and I measured this one day when I was getting a new pair of shoes!. I scrunched up my flat foot and temporarily created an arch in my foot, and it reduced the size of my foot by two sizes!. But that was creating a much higher arch than my orthotics "create" so probably the difference in your case will be less dramatic!. If the arch in your orthotic was that high, you probably couldn't wear your orthotics for more than about 30 seconds!. :-)

You can't assume that your orthotics would be high-arched, because if you get custom orthotics, they are casted for your feet with your foot at rest in a neutral position, and if your foot at rest has a low arch, so will your orthotics most likely have an arch on the low side!. One of my friends has orthotics, but the arch in them is almost nonexistent, just like the "arch" in his feet at rest!. I guess you'll have to find out when you get them!.

But yes, if your orthotics arch your feet more than when you're not wearing them, this will reduce the length of your foot--but by how much, I don't know!. My guess is not that much!.

Are you hoping your feet won't be as big if you get orthotics, you're hoping they'll be smaller!? I wouldn't worry about it too much, your feet don't sound too big for your height!. :-)Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, your feet could only potentially get smaller if you developed an arch on your foot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
