Answers:
Because the bacteria in your mouth that cause bad breath are anaerobic (ie don't like oxygen). When you sleep you generally close your mouth (thus decreasing oxygen) permitting the bacteria to reproduce. The same happens when you're working hard - because you usually close your mouth.
