As long as you are in a well ventilated space (and any registered tourist location has to be safely ventilated) then there is no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. I'd say it'd probably be a waste of space. Pack an extra pair of shorts instead.
Depends where you are stopping/sleeping. If a quality hotel probably not necessary, but if self catering or low budget place, then I'd say take it and use it. Your and your loved ones lives are too precious so it's a brilliant precaution. (If you're flying, pack the batteries separately and pack both in your case, not your cabin bag).
most hotel fire detectors are carbon monoxide detectors too unless your taking a trip to a 3rd world country then its not needed
