Why can't people grow new organs after they're born?!

Question: Why can't people grow new organs after they're born?
I don't get why fetuses can grow organs and born people can't... I know it's genetic, but why don't our genes tell us to grow a new one if something happens, like losing an arm.

and even though they dont, why dont they just copy whatever process the fetuses have to making organs to synthetically make organs for people who lose them

Answers:

Actually, every species is capable of regenerative abilities to some extent. Children up to age 10 can regrow missing fingertips in a month, provided they aren't sealed with skin flaps when treated. If part of the fingernail is still there, it grows back in a square ending. A man in his sixties lost his fingertip, and was treated with an extracellular matrix by his father, a Dr. who had been researching regeneration at the time, and he grew that back. The year was 2007. It seems the matter of age has been dealt with, but the science must still require a lot of research and progress for aided regeneration to become as powerful as we wish it would be, and extend it to the rest of the body.
The liver is able to regenerate as much as 75% of itself to become whole.

Fetuses can grow organs because they're still in development, and they're in a position with the right conditions that greatly promote it. If people can regenerate arms, it would take a very long time. Google might give you a better answer.

Wikipedia. Yes I did.

I believe you answered the first question, it is genetic. After all, the code written in the Human Genome is pretty much responsible for everything we build. However, you will need to study embryology to fully understand why only fetuses "build" organs. The answer lies in stem cells.
Being able to grow an arm after losing is truly way in the future, yet perhaps possible. We have not "evolved" those abilities. It's a lot to ask of your body, which already has insane abilities, to fix your blood vessels, ligaments, bones, and muscles in your arm. We have developed the ability to grow back certain things, like the liver, some nerves, and skin. Also able to live without certain organs such as part of liver, one kidney, gallbladder and the heart(jk bout the heart).
It is not as simple as copying the fetus' process. We must first "evolve" the ability to copy that process.

LOL...
shiit's not that simple, unfortunatly.
But i like your question :) hehe
