Bad breath what can i do 'bout it?!

Question: Bad breath what can i do 'bout it?
Answers:

Bad breath is generally a sign of bad oral hygiene. Not just your teeth but your gums and tongue and other mucus tissues in your mouth.
98% of the time, when someone comes into my surgery complaining of bad breath, it is usually to do with bad oral hygiene even if your teeth look clean.
So here's some things that you can do:

1) You MUST Clean your teeth for no less than 2 minutes twice a day ( preferably once after breakfast and once before you go to bed) Before you go to bed is necessary because otherwise the bacteria in your mouth has all night to feed on your enamel. Once you have cleaned your teeth at night, do not eat anything after ( you can drink water)

2) keep your mouth hydrated. If your mouth is dry, it smells worse, so you have to keep drinking ( water) throughout the day, or chew some SUGAR FREE chewing to stimulate saliva production in the mouth. a chewing gum with xylitol in is good because this is a natural sugar substitute and is good for your teeth

3) Clean your tongue when you clean your teeth, brush you tongue with a toothbrush, you can do this using with a little bit of tooth paste, i find this helps keep breath fresh. Make sure you clean right at the back of the tongue because this is where bad bacteria mainly harbours in th mouth.

4) Using dental floss a few times a week can really help, but is not essential

5) it's very important that when you have cleaned your teeth you rinse your mouth, this can be done with cool fresh water but it's best if you use a mouthwash, a strong mint one. You must gargle with it too because this will get the mouth wash to all areas of the mouth. This is an important step as toothpaste can start to smell bad if it's not washed away, it's good for cleaning but doesn't smell nice after a while

6) keep with you throughout the day the water like i mentioned earlier and chewing gum or mints. (sugar free again) pop these in your mouth throughout the day to keep your breath freshalthoughh if you are not putting the other steps in action these won't work because you are not getting to the root of the problem, bad oral hygiene.

7) Avoid things like garlic and onions as these do NOT smell good and cannot be got rid of from the mouth very easily. AND after every meal or eating anything, try and rinse the mouth with water, this will stop the food build up starting to smell bad as it will be washed away.

8) If this doesn't work then you may have a medical condition. You may need to see a dental/oral hygienist. Consult your dentist
