I feel embarrassed to wear sandals?!

Question: I feel embarrassed to wear sandals?
Ok, so I had a big problem with ingrown toenails. My right foot big toe had an ingrown toenail. Currently, i am 18, and this started 3 years ago. It had already happened a lot of times before, but i would just cut my nail and it would heal. When it happened, i thought i would just do the same thing, but this time it didn't seem to be working. I was too embarrassed to tell anybody, because my toe looked really really bad. Sorry if this sound nasty. It had blood, it was reddish, purple, and it was swollen. Also, i has so much pain. I finally went to the doctor 3 years later and they had to remove the whole nail. It took about 8 month to heal, but my toe still looks different than my other one. Plus, i feel the nail starting to grow ingrown again, so i might have to go to the doctor and the will remove the side of my nail permanently. He said you wouldn't be able to tell that much. Well, the problem is that it's getting warmer now, so i fell embarrassed to wear sandals. Do you think people would notice? If you're a guy, do you think i should always wear tennis shoes or just wear sandals any ways? Why?Thanks.

Answers:

Many people suffers from the same condition as you have. If there is nothing wrong yet with your toe. Except the way it looks. Then you have nothing to worry about, its all about self confidence. I have the same thing on one of my toes. Its black and a dead nail. Though it doesn't keep me from wearing sandals.
