What's a bone density scan like?!

Question: What's a bone density scan like?
I've gotta get a bone density scan done cuz I've been on steroid medication (prednisolone) on & off my whole life for asthma & it can seriously thin your bones so last time i was in hospital they told me they are booking me in for it. Anyway, just wondering what it's like? I've had CT scans, EEGs, X-rays & ultrasounds so I'm used to being "scanned" but is there anything different or scary about the bone density scans? Are bone density scans referred to as BDS? just wondering lol oh & it's at the endocrinology department! What the? What the hell do bones have to do with endocrinology??

I don't know

Bone density scan is the not at all hazardous although CT scans are. They are at endocrinology because many hormones are involved with bone density but things like prednisolone etc they also reduce density. So doctors are right if you have been taking it for long you should do that scan.(:
